A Little Bit of Time with Elizabeth from Kiss My Sass

I love Indie Companies, and I have decided it was time to have a little Question and Answer with lovely owner of Kiss My Sass, Elizabeth.

I feel as a mineral junkie, it's not only the products that keep me purchasing. But the master mind behind the products, the customer service and overall presentation and reputation of the company.

I have actually known of Kiss My Sass for about 9 months (or so), due to the lovely Phyrra. I have been following Elizabeth ever since, as I drooled over quite a few swatches of her products.

What makes Elizabeth business savvy is not only does she make her own mineral make up, but she has a bath product line Suds N Sass. I'm hoping to place an order from her bath line and test out some of her products (I will keep you updated).

Now that I have ran on a bit, let me get to the main point of this blog post!!!

Since Indie Companies are home-run company as a consumer (and mineral addict) my loyalty and love/lust for a company products really stems from how well I get to know the owner. So I felt it was time to get to know a little more about Elizabeth and Kiss My Sass.

My Mini Interview with Elizabeth

Q. What made you decide to start your own business (in particular mineral cosmetics and soaps)?

A. After I had my daughter in 2006, I knew I wanted to be a stay-at-home Mom and raise her myself.  I also knew that I needed something to do from home to make a little bit of money to supplement my Hubby's income.  I tried mark/avon as well as Mary Kay and they just didn't do it for me.  Then I received a Melt & Pour soapmaking kit as a gift and I fell in love.  Not exactly with the quality of the product in the kit but with the idea of making my own products instead of selling someone elses.  I did quite a bit of research after that and in January 2008 Suds n Sass was born ; )

Q. What inspired you for your company's Name?

A. I had actually gone through quite a few names and my husband suggested Suds n Sass and I loved it!  My husband also came up with Kiss My Sass as name for our previous Lip Gloss which I also loved and thus carried it along to Kiss My Sass Cosmetics!

Q. What are your personal favorite products from your own line (type, color)?

A. This is very hard as I love alot but here are my top favs:
Blush: Sunday Morning & Innocent
Highlighter: Halo
Lip Gloss: J'adore, Purple Rain & Sweet Escape (I prefer the Gloss over the Glaze)
Lip Mixer: Divine Diva & Downtown Brown mixed w/ Nude Attitude
Shadows: Boogieman (Halloween 2011), Reign Over Me, Boardwalk, and so many others it's hard to choose!

Q. What are your top 3 sellers in eyeshadows? Lipglazes/glosses? Cheek products?

A. Shadows: Reign Over Me, Sleepy Hollow, Spellbound
Glosses/Glazes:Plastic Princess, Purple Rain, Innocence
Cheeks: Glisten, Suntan, Raspberry Snow Cone

Q. You originally sold both cosmetics and soaps...what made you decide to change to mostly cosmetics?

A. At that time, I was running out of space for two growing companies and I had decided to close Suds n Sass & open Kiss My Sass Cosmetics for makeup sales only.  Since then, I have moved everything to a much larger space and I am doing both Suds n Sass & Kiss My Sass Cosmetics : )

Q. Where do you get your inspiration for colors? names of colors?

A. Inspiration for colors comes from things in my daily life...my daughter, nature, makeup I saw someone wearing in one of my fav tv shows etc.  As for names, this is where I struggle and often times I ask my hubby or I ask my Twitter followers!

Q. What makes your products different than other make up brands or other indie companies?

A. I don't think there's anything specific that makes my products different from other indie companies but I do try to be original when creating colors and I try to have the best customer service possible!

Q. What are some of your personal favorite make up brands?

A. While I do love Kiss My Sass Cosmetics lol I also wear makeup from other brands (both high & low end brands) such as Urban Decay, MAC, Bare Escentuals, Hard Candy, Physicians Formula etc.

Q. What do we, as fellow make up lovers, get to look forward to with the fall season from your company?

A. I'm a bit late answering these questions, but I do have some Halloween/Fall themed items available on Suds n Sass and if the Halloween/Fall Goodies aren't on Kiss My Sass Cosmetics yet, they will be very soon!  Halloween is my favorite time of year to create both unique colors as well as unique fragrances!

Q. What is one of your goals you hope to achieve before the ending of 2011? (this can be company related or personal...whichever you want/feel comfortable answering).

A. I was planning on Re-Launching Suds n Sass on October 1st BUT unfortunately, I had completely lost everything on the Kiss My Sass Cosmetics site : (  My goal for the rest of 2011 is to have both sites up, completely finished and running smoothly as well as maybe a Christmas/Winter/New Years Eve collection..

I want to Thank Elizabeth for taking the time to humor me and answer all my questions!!!

Hope you have enjoyed this little minute of getting to know a Savvy Indie Business Woman!!

FOTD: Using Kiss My Sass

Photobucket

The other day the mister and I decided to check out the family day at one of the many summer festivals here in our local area. Thus I decided to play in a little bit of my war paint to come up with something summery and essentially easy to apply and wear (because of how humid it had been that week).

Since I want to make sure I get as much proper wearability to my recent purchases, I decided I would try making a different look using products from Kiss My Sass.

Products used:
ELF Essential Lip Liner in Spice (outlined and filled in)
Kiss My Sass Lip Mixer in In the Buff (blended in)

Normally I don't like a majorly nude lip, but I thought it would be the perfect way to test out to the product. Plus I had such a loud shirt on (ie the design/ print) I needed something to draw less attention.

For the rest of the face

Products used
ELF Studio Complete Concealer in Light
Sabrina Cosmetics Pressed Powder in 03
ELF Studio Bronzer and blush Duo (bronzer for contour)
Coastal Scents 10 blush palette (peachy pink matte color)

Overall, I was pretty pleased with the look. By the end of the humid day the face make up pretty much melted off (stupid humidity), but the eye shadow looked fabulous!!!

FOTE: Using Kiss My Sass

As usual, a Saturday night rolls around and it's time to get ready to go out with my people here in Germany. Since I have rotated through most of my clothes in my closet already, my friend was kind enough to let me borrow one of her shirts (as she thought the color would be very complimentary to my skin tone..and she was right). It was a pretty golden orange, thus it made it really easy to coordinate make up with...hence I reached for my new products (that I will be reviewing) from Kiss My Sass.

The golden shimmers from Swagger and Drama Queen, I think really pull this very fall look together. **Please keep in mind I did apply Swagger wet to the eyelid, as well as Fiesty when it was applied to the inner crease. Just because the shadows do pop more when applied wet. They were then set with some dry shadow on top as well.

Rest of the face:
MAC Pro Long Wear Foundation in NC20
Hard Candy's Glamofouge Concealer in Light
MAC Prep and Prime Powder (to set)
Coastal Scents 88 Matte Palette (light brown for contour of nose)
Nars Mati Hari blush (apples of cheeks)
Kiss My Sass cheek product In the Buff  (as Highlight)

Lips
Estee Lauder LipLiner in Tawny
ELF Mineral Lipgloss in Au Natural

My friends kept telling me the rest of the evening, due to my color choices of make up, my accessories that I looked like an Indian Princess. All I needed was a braid or something! ha ha ha

Photobucket

Overall, I was very satisfied with the look. In particular the shadows (especially Swagger and Fiesty) really made my brown eyes pop a bit. I applied the make up around 6 pm and didn't end up taking it off until 430 am the next day (yeah, I party like that). The only thing that really budged from the either look besides lip colors was my eye pencil in my waterline.

Two thumbs up to Kiss My Sass products, as they past the night of drunken debauchery and hard core dancing at the dance club (without any creasing).

Kiss My Sass Cosmetics

I have been folllowing Kiss My Sass on Twitter for a bit now, and after seeing several swatches from the lovely Phyrra. I decided it was time to get some of my own products!!!!

Luckily for me, the lovely Elizabeth, owner of Kiss My Sass, offers a great deal for YouTube/Beauty bloggers. I met the requirements and after a bit of questioning (and much much debating) I decided on a few products!!! Considering I got to choose 7 different products from her line, I felt that my final decisions were going to allow me to get a full experience of what Kiss My Sass has to offer.

I placed my order on 7/13, costing me a total of $10.00 (mind you, there are particular requirements when purchasing the YouTube/Beauty Blogger Special. Since you get so many products and don't have to pay shipping and handling on...need to make sure you fellow as directed. Or literally pay the price). I received an email on 7/29 letting me know that my package was mailed (I do know in the time frame of being processed, Elizabeth had gone on a mini vacation. Which I believe every hard working woman/man need). I found my package in my mail box on 8/8 (did want to mention that my post office was closed on base due to a family day, so I did not receive mail the previous Friday before my package arrived).

Photobucket
What came in my package!

Photobucket
Cute card, business card, a sample baggie of an eyeshadow and a pink ticket

----The pink ticket is for when Elizabeth does random raffles and you can win something fun!!! So it's important to keep your pink ticket in a safe place!---

Photobucket
Package of actual make up goodies!!! Isn't the baggie cute??

Photobucket
All my Awesome stuff!!

Since I got to choose a total of 7 different items, I decided to go with 5 eye shadows, 1 cheek product and 1 lip product. Also she did include a sample baggie of an eyeshadow as well!!!

**Now for this particular package, these are 5 gram jars. **

Cute Emblem as well
These jars were sealed

And all ingridents are listed nicely on the back of the jars

Let's get into swatches!!!!

Please note that the swatches of the powder products will appear in the following order, Left: DRY (no Base) Right: DRY (with base). The based used is High Voltage Eye Base in Skin Tone, and my fingers were used to  swatch the products.
*Denotes the official website description of the product

****Also I want to state that these products were purchased with my own money, thus all my thoughts, first impressions and final review are my HONEST opinion****

In the Buff - thick but not sticky texture lip gloss (good for those who don't like sticky lip products...as who wants their hair stick to their lips). It is a soft peachy nude color (which sadly isn't for me...at least when I'm tan). It is scented combination of coconut milk & peaches, however it has no flavor whatsoever. And when one licks their lips (while this product is on) it does come off the lips. As well as leaves a slight slick residue in the mouth.
*In the Buff is a light peachy nude

Cheeks

Glisten (highlighter)

Glisten: golden peachy shimmer with gold reflects, definitely a highlight for those with olive skin tones (or those who tan easily). Could be used as a soft blush to give fairer skin a soft glow. Also could see this being added to a foundation to give a dewy look.
*Glisten is a peachy pink with golden shimmer

Sahara

Sahara - is a matte fleshtone brown/nude. Reminds me alot of Soft Brown by MAC...this color will definitely be my transitional color for blending!
*Sahara is a matte beige/tan

Swagger

Swagger - a beautiful golden brown with gold reflects. This by far is one of my favorite colors from my package. This color is perfect for any neutral eye and is great for the fall. With it being between a golden brown I can see any eye color rocking it, and it being the eye color of a party!
*Swagger is bronze/brown with copper sparkles

Tea Rose

Tea Rose - soft pink/peach with golden shimmer. In the pictures it appears more golden beige than in person which it appears more pink. It reminds me alot of ELF Studio Blush in the Bronzer/Blush Duo.
*Tea Rose is a peachy pink with golden shimmers

Drama Queen

Drama Queen- soft shimmery pale pink with golden shimmer. In the pictures the color comes off more yellow than it is in person. This will be a great highlight or inner corner eye brightener.
* Drama Queen is sheer nude with heavy golden sheen

Fiesty

Fiesty - matte burgundy. See this color being used to deepen a crease or on the lower lash line just to give the eye a bit of pop!
*Fiesty is deep matte burgundy.

True Love- perfect matte red. It reminds me dead on of Sugarpill's Love +. Something to keep in mind when  using such a matte bright color is the possibility of staining the skin. Which I did have a bit of when I attempted to clean off the swatches.
*True Love (when receive official description will fill in).

Overall Impression
So far I like everything about Kiss My Sass Cosmetics, Elizabeth has been more than helpful with answering any of my questions. Plus I do like the personal touch of a card along with my order and order print out (so I can see everything that I originally ordered off the site).

Also want to note in regards to amounts of product received in this package are broken down into the following:
Sample baggies contain 1/8 tsp of product**
**Unless the product is Cheek product which then there is 1/4 tsp of product in a baggie
Sample Jars (which are in the YouTube/Beauty Blogger Package) contain 1/4 tsp of product
Sample Lip pods contain (to be filled in once informed) of product

Hope to bring you a few fun FOTD's using these products, and a final review soon!

Until then go check out Kiss My Sass
