Dupe Alert: Revlon Vs Mac

If you have watched my recent haul videos on my YouTube channel you will know that I recently Back to Mac quite a few items. As I was able to get 3 eyeshadows and 1 lipstick.

The lipstick has been one of the few I have kept my eye on for a bit from Mac, as it has been mentioned in several YouTube Gurus (that I watch) videos.

Thus the newest edition to my personal lipstick collection became Mac's Show Orchid, which is an Amplified Lipstick.

Attempting to look up a bit more information on the Mac Cosmetics website, I noticed that Show Orchid is actually not offered at the moment (which is a little bit odd). So I had to turn to the wonderful beauty blogger, Temptalia for the "official" description.

"MAC Show Orchid Lipstick ($14.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a vibrant shade of fuchsia-pink with iridescent fuchsia-purple sheen. It’s a bold and bright shade that’s definitely eye-catching. It is a full-color coverage lipstick with a creamy feel and light sheen. It has an amplified creme finish, which means it has a creamy (but not too creamy–there’s no real slip here) and incredibly pigmented. It smells like vanilla, has no taste (at least, not to me), and wears for a good four hours before it needs a reapplication." -Temptalia

The lipstick is definitely creamy and very pigmented. One entire good swipe on both the upper and lower lips and I'm good to go. Since this color is a very bold statement, which is also great for the summer. I think a pretty neutral eye to even just a basic shuttle liner and mascara would pair well with this vibrant color.

Mac's Show Orchid Lipstick

Now, considering this lipstick apparently is currently unavailable on the website, I suppose it is a good thing I got bored the other day and started to reorganize the set up of my make up collection. Which of course lead me to sitting there and reswatching lipsticks, as to make sure that I don't have similar colors. Cause as exciting as it is to have lots of lipsticks...I prefer having the space!

Though I came across a GREAT Dupe for Mac's Show Orchid!!! And it's a drug store brand...score for savings!!! What is even more ironic is the fact they both have the word Orchid in the name.

Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipstick in Wild Orchid

Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipstick in Wild Orchid ($ 4.97-$5.97 pending on store of purchase for .15 oz) which according to the Revlon Website has "Exclusive LiquiSilk™ formula with mega-moisturizers seals in color and softness. Silky-smooth, creamy texture. Stay true color wears evenly". Although there is no formal description of Wild Orchid, I would say this is a purpley fuchsia with a blue undertone making it a cool tone. Due to the texture of this lipstick it applies easily, is quite pigmented, and has no smell (not even the vanilla scent that many lipsticks have).

Can you even tell the difference from the above pics of the swatches of Show Orchid to these swatches of Wild Orchid? Even when I applied it on the lips I could really tell no difference!

As you will notice the Show Orchid is has more of a pink color in the tube while Wild Orchid has a bit more of a purple color.

Looking at these with the flash you can actually see the more purple tone in the Wild Orchid makes it appear a hotter pink than Show Orchid

I tried both lipsticks in a manner of two days. Seriously I could not tell the difference between either one, from one day to the next. Neither could my husband or my friend, they both thought I liked rocking the color.

Final thoughts: Overall if you are looking for a fun bright summer color of Mac's Show Orchid but don't want to pay then try out Revlon's Wild Orchid!!!

Update: Finish What You Started Make Up Project 2011

Another day, another make up product is officially done and a new one started. I honestly feel pretty proud of myself because of how well I'm doing with attempting to finish make up that has been in my collection. And I dont doubt it prolly is looking a little annoying that I am constantly updating my blog with posting in regards to my Finish what you Started Make Up Project!

I really thought I was going to have a bit of an issue trying to actually finish products, but so far I have been doing pretty good. Plus with finishing the various make up items, I am making more room in my collection (and storage area). Doesn't necessarily mean I'm off to immediately replace them as soon as I am done (as I end up having at least one back up product so that I can have something to use once one item is done).

Keep in mind, if I believe something is Holy Grail status I will be hopping in the car or online to get my hands on another product...as when I find something I really like (and that works well for me) I need to get my hands on it again. As my luck tends to be when I find something that I really like (and I only get one back up) the product gets discontinued...perfect examples the Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer and MAC's Moistureblend Foundation...both products I love. Both products that went BYE BYE!

This time it is one of my pressed facial powders that has finally taking a rest, my Wet N Wild Natural Blend Pressed Powder in 821 Natural (as when I originally purchased this powder it was during the winter..hence the light color choice).

Overall, I have personally enjoyed using this pressed powder...and I love the fact it is at a good price point. Though I will not lie, I do have some shine through and have to retouch my T zone area about 4 hours after applying it...sometimes a little sooner (pending on if I get sweaty or not).

The powder is very light, it gives minimal coverage (if you are a pressed powder only faced girl) but it feels very soft on the skin...and does not leave a powdery feeling on your fingers (if you were to rub your hands across your face). Even though I had a very light shade for pressed powder...it actually ended up helping me out, as I had a liquid foundation that was a tad to dark (thus it gave me at one point a semi-orangey looking face). With a bit more of buffing this pressed powder in, I did notice that the liquid foundation coloring got a bit lighter (huge plus, considering I'm trying to finish up products...verses trying to purchase more).

I know Wet N Wild has been stepping up their game in regards to their eye products, thus I do think it might be time to at least change up the packaging a bit for their facial products. Understand that the actual packaging for this pressed powder is made of recycled paper...thus it will not make a good compact to throw in your travel make up bag or gym bag ( I did that to a different powder and I was sad to have to clean it out of my purse a week later). That is really my one issue with this product...is the packaging is left to be desired for!

According to the Wet N Wild website the Natural Blend Pressed Powder is "Paraben-free pressed powder made with natural ingredients and infused with vitamins and minerals to nourish skin. Enriched with light-diffusing pigments to help minimize imperfections and provide even-looking coverage."

Since I have scraped as much as I can from the Wet N Wild pan, I am now going to try out a powder I purchased on sale a few months ago and see how it goes....it is the Revlon ColorStay Pressed Powder in the color Light-Meduim.

Now I personally have never used any pressed powders from the Revlon line, however I have used the Colorstay foundation on myself (I use the Photoready foundations in my make up kit for when I work on clients). Though I have one Colorstay Lip Liner in my kit (it's the truest red that I have ever seen and looks great on all skin tones).

So trying out another item within the Colorstay family should be pretty interesting. The biggest compliant that I have read when researching a bit about this pressed powder is that it doesn't sit right on the skin when using it to set liquid foundations (the only one it seemed best suited for is the ColorStay liquid foundation).

I just barely started using this so I will have to keep an eye out and see what happens with it! I suppose time will only tell if this product will be a good or bad...but no matter what at least I got it for 50% off the normal sales price! he he!

According to the Revlon website the Colorstay Pressed Powder is "Exclusive ColorStay™ jet-milled formula for ultra-fine, silkier texture helps to minimize shine and creates a fresh, flawless finish that wears for up to 16 hours over makeup."

Mail Call: Revlon ColorStay Eyeshadow Quad in Berry Bloom

So I went to my PO Box the other day and again was pleasantly surprised to find my Giveaway winning package from Miss Kelley AKA PhatGirlzRule.

As you can guess, I really like watching her channel, considering I have gotten two different items from her!!! See this is why I recommend checking her out, when she does reviews on make up products. She normally gets two of whatever she is talking about and offers one to her subscribers. You end up just having to answer a question that she poses in the review video and BAM, the item is yours!!!!

I won, Revlon's Color Stay Eyeshadow Quad in Berry Bloom, which is pretty cool. I love my Revlon Color Stay Foundation, but hadn't considered their eye products. Boy, do I really need to reconsider it!!! he he

The colors overall are pretty pigmented for a drugstore brand, and they will look great on any eye color. For some odd reason I have been noticing, as of recent, that Pinks/Berry shadows really pop on my skin tone. I don't know if it's because I'm olive tone, or if it's my brown eyes. But every time I wear shadows in that color selection, I always get a compliment or two.

As part of getting the freebie eyeshadow, Kelley requested my own review of the product as well as a look created using it. I plan on doing two, just to challenge myself more (I figure I could use the practice).

I do use all four colors from the Quad in this first created look, it's a smokey berry pink/purple. I paired it up with soft pink cheeks using Mayra's Cosmetics Blush Petunia's Touch. And a nudeish lip

I'm thinking Revlon has a good line with their Color Stay Products, tell will only tell. I used two different eye bases for this look. I am considering trying a look without any base and see how long the product lasts (without creasing or smudging).
