FOTD: Feeling Blue with High Voltage Cosmetics

Photobucket

I decided it was time to actually dig in my collection and pull out one brand of eye make up to play with today..and High Voltage Cosmetics was what I decided on!!!

I recently reorganized my entire eyes section of my make up collection (which everything is broken down into color families..I will do an updated make up storage video for the YT channel soon so you can see what I mean...well if you like). Thus I kinda just reached into one section and then attempted to find coordinating colors afterwards.

Blue with just a hint of purple...normally I would automatically think of a bruise...but I thought the colors looked pretty together.

High Voltage Cosmetics Shadow Mystery #33 lower lash line
P2 Automatic Eye Kajalah in Black
NYC Liquid Eyeliner in Black

ELF Studio Complete Concealer in Light
ELF Studio Duo Bronzer/blush Bronzer for contour

ELF Essential LipLiner in Bark
NYX Girls Round Lipstick in Orange Soda
ELF Essential Gloss in New York (discontinued color)

It was my first time trying out the High Voltage Eye Shadow Base..I figured it was time to attempt to use new base. Plus I noticed I had accidently not tightened the lid of the jar when I was fiddling with it the other day..so it looked slightly dry on top. Hence why I messed with it today...gotta make sure I close jars all the way. Don't want my good products going to waste!!!

The shadow base was easy to apply to the skin and considering I went about 10 hours before it started to sho some signs of creasing...I would say pretty damn good (for the first time). I'm going to continue to use it for the rest of the month (and summer) to develop a final opinion on it. And review it at the end of August, so keep an eye out for that!!!

It was the first time I also used all three of the High Voltage shadows...and I'm absolutely in love with Master of Disguise. It is just a perfect high light color...that I totally am going to use more often. Girls Night Out is an interesting blend of blue/purple with silver shimmer, I applied it wet all over the lid. Blended Mind's Eye into the crease, which is a darker blue/black with a hint of shimmer as well.

I think I'm going to have to play a bit more with my minerals...I actually struggled today to attempt to first put them on...which means....I'm rusty!!!! he he

I also rocked my New Bottle Ring that I got from Battie Bows

High Voltage Cosmetics Mystery Collection & Swatches

I got these shadows a while back, however I never got around to posting the swatches and first thoughts about them.

Sadly these particular shadows offered by the lovely Jasmine at High Voltage aren't listed anymore on the website (as they were a special collection). The Mystery Collection was actually leftovers from little creations that Jasmine had. Whether it was trying to come up with a new color for a collection, or merely accidently mixing a little of one color with a little of another.

What made the Mystery Collection unique is the fact that these colors won't really be able to be reproduced, so if it caught my fancy...I purchased it.

**I want to note that I love the fact High Voltage offers sample baggies at a very affordable price $1.00 a baggie and shipping is always fair. **

I placed my order for this small selection of Mystery Shadows shortly before Christmas, in which it was a total of $9 overall. I picked out 9 different Mystery colors and had FREE shipping!!! It was shipped out on December 22nd and arrived Jan 3rd 2011...which I think is pretty good time frame (considering how often our post office on base was closed for the holidays).

To add just an extra touch Jasmine included a note, which just shows me how much thought, time and effort she puts into her customer service and customers!!! This is why I always keep going back for more!!!

My cute note from Jasmine

Additional Goodies for my ordering from High Voltage
Yay for more SAMPLES!!!

**With every order you place with High Voltage you do get samples**

On to the Make up PORN...I mean swatches!!!

*All products are swatched over ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer. If the shadow is swatched Wet it is using MAC fix +
For all swatches (if the proper link for photobucket doesn't work right, the Dry swatch is on top the wet swatch is on bottom)

Mystery Shadow #6
Teal with blue shimmer

While dry this color seems to have more of an aqua green color. While wet it is a gorgeous teal blue and you can see all the shimmer!!

Suggestion of what to do with this color: #6 would make a beautiful lid color, lower lash liner to make the eyes pop. Or turned into an eyeliner to make a look even more exciting!!!

Mystery Shadow #17
Sky blue with a hint of lilac

This color dry seems to have an duo chrome effect going from a light blue to a soft purple. While wet this color has more of an aqua light blue, reminding me of a satin based shadow.

Suggestion of what to do with this color: #17 would make a pretty lid color as well as a fun nail polish to wear during the early spring.

Mystery Shadow #29
Green/Olive with black undertones

While this shadow is dry is has more of a golden green with copper and gold shimmer. However when it is applied wet it has more of an olive green (darker) and you can see the gold shimmer spread throughout it (this would also pop more on a dark base).
*This reminds me of MAC's Golden Olive Pigment (I think I will have to do a swatch comparison later on).

Suggestion of what to do with this color: #29 would make a beautiful eye liner or lid color.

Mystery Shadow #28
Darkened Bronzy Gold

*It reminded me of mixing the two Euro coin colors together..hence why they are pictured between the swatches!!!

This color dry appears to be a darker gold and you can see the gold reflects in it. However if it is applied wet is takes on a lighter gold coloring.

Suggestion of what to do with this color: #28 would make a great lid color (especially if you were going for a smokey golden look). Plus it would make a great eye brightener (popping it in the inner corner or lower lash line). Also think this would be a pretty liner!

Mystery Shadow #36
Golden Green with Green Shimmers

This color is pretty similiar to #29 when swatched dry. However when it is applied wet you can see there are no dark undertones as in #29. You see gold and green shimmer all throughout the shadow.

Suggestion of what to do with this color: #36 again this particular green would be a great lid color, or even blended into the crease to give a great smokey effect.

Mystery Shadow #31
Darkened Maroon/Purple with black undertones

When this color is dry (which you can't really see in the picture) it has blue and purple shimmer all throughout the swatch. When this is applied wet it's quite pretty and you can see the dark undertones (next time need to swatch it over a dark base and see how it looks).

Suggestion of what to do with this color: #31 would be an ideal crease color to use for a smokey eye or lid color (if you did a reverse smokey eye). Could also substitute this as a liner on either the top or lower lash line.

Mystery Shadow #33
Dusty Pink/Purple with golden shimmers

This color dry reminds me a bit of MAC Star Violet, because the golden shimmers throughout the shadow. However you notice the shimmers more when you apply this color wet, to which the color takes on more of a darker burgundy (mauve).

Suggestion of what to do with this color: #33 would make a pretty lid color and crease color, pending on what it is paired up with.

Mystery Shadow #32
*Will be uploading picture tomorrow

Sea Green with Silver Shimmer

When this color is dry and blended out it has more of a sea green color, reminding me of the Pacific Ocean. When this color is applied wet it becomes a beautiful teal blue/green.

*This reminds me of Island Chic by Glamour Doll Eyes

Suggestion of what to do with this color: #32 would be a great liner or lid color. Possibly even a fun nail polish color to rock during the summer time.

Mystery Shadow #27
*Will be uploading a picture tomorrow

Dark Plummy Purple with hint of shimmer

This color dry isn't nearly as pretty as when it is wet, however you can see the shimmers have a pink color. When applied wet the color is a bit darker (than when dry) and you can see the undertone of pink alot better. The shadow has a slight satin feel which makes it very easy to blend or apply.

Suggestion of what to do with this color:# 27 would be a great crease color or a pretty liner (especially for green eyed gals/guys).

Overall, I really like the colors I chose to start off with from this Mystery Collection. Apparently when I placed the order I had a thing for metallic colors, as many have that look (especially when applied wet).

I will attempt to do a FOTD sometime soon using some of these colors!!!

High Voltage: Alter Ego it is

If you have a liking to smaller mineral companies like me, then you will love this blog post!! Well that is if you are a ligloss junkie (as many of my fellow make up addicts are). Now my personal collection of lipgloss is pretty big, so I have been really trying not to add to it. And if I do it has to be within reason.

Thus I decided it was time to try out High Voltage Cosmetics lip products, as so far I love their mineral eye shadows.

High Voltage as a total of four different types of lip products, Amplified Lip Powders, Lip Candy, Lip Whips and Amp'd Up Lip Gloss. So I placed an order for some full size shadows, shadow primer and an Amp'd Up Lip Gloss.

Photobucket
High Voltage Amp'D Up Lip Gloss in Alter Ego
Natural Lighting

Now this lip gloss is extremely unique from any other lip gloss currently in my collection, not only by actual packaging. As this lip gloss is in a pot form (the rest of my glosses are either with doe foot applicators or squeezey tubes). But the consistancy of the gloss and color pay out are quite unique as well.

Photobucket
Natural Lighting

According to the website "Amp'd Up Gloss's are all natural highly pigmented smooth,Creamy, hydrating, non greasy lip products that are in between a gloss and a balm. Helps relieve cracked and chapped Lips and makes your lips beautiful. All Amp'd Up Glosses come in a 5 ML Jar with 4 ML Of Product. These come unscented and the natural smell of the shea butter is hardly noticeable. A lip brush is encouraged"

The full size pot of lip gloss is available for $6.50, and High Voltage now does sample sizes of their lip products, which come in a clamshell packaging that runs $1.75. I'm not certain of the exact amount of product put into the sample size, though I understand that it can get at least 5-7 uses.

Photobucket
With Flash

I would describe this color as a mauvey purple/pink that has a hint of a blue/green undertones. I didn't even realize it at the time that I order this, but it does bare similar color qualities as my Mac Show Orchid Amplified Lipstick. Apparently I'm unintentionally attracted to fuchsia colors, though with my current hair coloring it is quite flattering.
Honestly what caught my eye is the fact that it was a darker hue and I just loved the name!

According to the site "Alter Ego is a Rosey Red/pink with a slight duochrome", which I can see how it does have the dusty rose color. However, pending on the pigmentation of your lips as well as skintone, I do believe the color changes just slightly.

Swatch

In the sunlight on my NC25 (olive skintone) I notice it has more of a purple than pink hue. Keep in mind this is one layer of swatching the product on my skin. I can imagine going over the skin a few more times for the layering effect to get a darker purple.

With flash
Photobucket

With the flash on you can see the Duochrome which to my eyes has a blue/green undertone. I believe that is what makes the color lean more to a fuchsia pink/purple verses a red/pink.

Photobucket
Applied two layers with lip brush

I do agree with the website stating the best way to apply this product is with a lip brush. True it is possible to use your finger, however the texture of the lipgloss is thick (similar to a lipstick).

A huge point I want to make is that this gloss is not sticky or super greasy. I will never have to worry about my hair getting stuck in it nor will it slide off my lips. Quite honestly it reminds me of a lipstick, which I don't really mind. The duochrome gives it that hint of shine that would define it as a lipgloss.

Photobucket
Me wearing Alter Ego

Recommendations for those to rock this color:
I think anyone of any skin tone could rock this vampy yet sexy color. Those who have fairer skin do be aware that people would consider you gothic for wearing this color during the day. I personally think having darker hair compliments this lip color well, but then again I could be pretty biased.

Photobucket

Overall impression of High Voltage Amp'D Up Lip Gloss:
I think this gloss is interesting addition to any make up lovers collection. I personally am quite satisfied with the color, quality of the product. I'm going to give the product a bit of a test run to give a final official review of it later on next month.

FOTD: High Voltage Cosmetics Halloween Shadows

So another day, another chance to play with my newest makeup! He He.

Surprise, Surprise I was able to get up earlier than usual (without the help of my alarm clock....which that in itself is amazing). And decided it was time to bust out the big guns!

Earlier this week, I received my first wig from an eBay seller (located in Hong Kong, which if anyone is interested in more information...let me know). I ordered it with intentions of using if for Halloween (which I still plan on doing so). Considering the fact, I have never worn one, I decided to use today as a test run. It did take me about 30 minutes to get my own hair situated, and the wig on and pinned in.

With hair set I moved on to make up, I knew I wanted to do a look using my High Voltage Halloween Shadows. As much as I wanted to use all four to the shadows, I did decide to stick with three.

So without further delay here was my look of the day.
Photobucket

Yes, I also rocked some of my favorite colored Konplott (love me some purple) and to not overdo this bright but smokey eye. I paired it off with a pinkish nude/brown lip, using NYX LipLiner in Natural, Clinique Lipstick in Ginger Frost and a Limited Edition MAC Lipglass in Moonbathe. And a bronzey cheek using NYX blush in Terra Cotta, with Hard Candy Baked Blush in Pin Up as highlight ( I love the way it makes my skin look).

Photobucket
I used Swamp Thing on the lower lash line, with a bit of Ghost Town in the inner tear duct. As I noted in my last blog post, Ghost Town looks like a pale minty green on my skin.

Photobucket
I used Zombie Chic (wet) all over the lid, Swamp Thing into the crease, and Ghost Town as a highlight. Might I mention that these colors are super easy to apply and very VERY blendable! I barely put Swamp thing on the tip of my MAC 217 and I still think the crease is pretty dark. I know if I wanted to transition this look over to a nighttime look, I could really darken the crease with getting Swamp Thing wet. But for daytime purposes and the fact I used my Wet N Wild Cream Liner in Black to line (and tightline) my eyes...this look felt perfect to me.

I'm not normally a green shadow person, though I always hear that it looks really good on brown eyes. I did notice more attention and compliments I received today for my makeup and overall appearance. I don't doubt it had to do with the fact I had long layered, straightened black hair and bright smokey eyes. One of my favorite boys to harass at work (who doesn't like a ton of makeup on girls...he's a cutie...though only 19!!!! SCARY), he told me he really liked my makeup. And to have someone who doesn't like make up say that...well that just shows me...that I was rocking my FOTD hard!! he he

Until next time!

My High Voltage Shadows in Depth

Now its time to do a little break down of the lovely colors I received earlier this week from High Voltage Cosmetics.

I am already making a small list of a few other colors that I am interested in trying, a few neutrals one matte and some fun pinks and purples. Again, I'm a sucker for pretty colors, and I think Jasmine has a thing for purples and blues. Just because I notice there are a ton more options for these color families (which I don't mind...whatsoever)!

The way that I am going to break it down for the colors is I will post the pic of my swatches and then describe how I viewed/saw the colors and then the description from the website will be noted with the following (*).

So ready or not here I go!!!!

PhotobucketThe bottom section is swatched over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk and the top colors are over ELF Mineral EyeShadow Primer. Also all pictures were taken with flash on.

Ghost Town- on my skin it was pale mint green. I would consider this a great highlight or inner tear duct color.

*Ghost Town- White Base Pearl with slight Green glow

Zombie Chic - bright green with tons of shimmer (shimmer looks to have more golden hue). Amazing color, totally a lid color. Can't wait to get this color wet!

*Zombie Chic - Medium Lime Green with subtle golden sparks

Swamp Thing - black shadow with metallic green undertone, This will be very pretty wet, I don't doubt the green color will pop more (or it on top of a black base). Definite crease color for a great smokey look.

*Swamp Thing - Deep Hunter Green with slight green sheen and satin finish

Witches Brew- dark navy blue with blue/black undertone. Tons of bright blue shimmer. Of all the Halloween samples I received this one is my FAVORITE!!! Would be great in the crease, I could totally see this on the lid or even as an awesome liner. Can't wait to play with this color!

*Witches Brew - Deep Grey/Sapphire with shimmer

So far so good, from my notes to what the website described. Considering this is my first real posting with details and swatches, I feel pretty proud of myself. Anyways moving on to the regular shadows.

Photobucket

Mean Streak- dark blue (almost a navy) with a little bit of shimmer. I could see this being a pretty color to use as a liner or in the crease.

*Mean Streak - Dark Egyptian Blue

Radio Star- this color is one of my FAVORITES Overall, it seriously is in my top 3 for shadows from this purchase. Blue/Green Duo Chrome. Depending on the light and angle could appear anywhere from a light blue to an aqua green. Literally I sat there moving my hand around and watching this color. Totally trippy!

*Radio Star - Duo Chrome Bright Blue/Aqua with sparks of Aqua Green

Alter Ego- beautiful magenta with shimmer. (shimmer looks slightly pink with a bit of purple). I just think this color is so pretty, because it's bright so it reminds me of pink, but it's closer to purple hue. Another great lid color...I bet you it would be really pretty on the lips too.

*Alter Ego -Fuchsia metallic

Roadie- Forest Green with lots of shimmer (shimmer appeared to be blue and green). I do think this is a pretty color....though I think I would need to find a better selection of colors to pair this off with. To really make the color pop...more than likely a pretty green smokey eye.

*Roadie -Teal Blue Green loaded with lots of sparkle

Photobucket
Scandalous - Vanilla shimmery color (had a slight gold sheen to it when blended out). Another great highlight color...I do think depending on the skin tone of who is wearing it...the color could be slightly different.

*Scandalous - Pale Yellow Pearl. When rubbed down is almost a White Pearl

November Rain- medium green with gold/yellow undertone and lots of shimmer. I got this color pretty much because it said November (just in case you didn't know..thats my birthday month. And there is always lots of rain throughout the month. So I thought it would be appropriate to get it). Great lid color...I'm thinking it could be a pretty liner color as well.

*November Rain - Jungle Green with subtle Jade shimmer

After Hours - dark purple with multi colored shimmer (red/green/blue). What made this color interesting is in the bag, this shadow has more of a reddish hue. Yet when I swatched it...totally different effect.

*After Hours - Satin Wine

Teenage Riot - Another huge FAVORITE, I don't even really know how to describe it. Beautiful medium blue with lots of shimmer (green/blue). Slight undertone of purple. Similar to how I sat and tripped out on Radio Star, Teenage Riot dazzled me. This color could go anywhere, lid, crease, lower lash line, liner...just overall PRETTY color!!!

*Teenage Riot - here is the irony Jasmine has had an issue attempting to describe this color on the site herself. After much discussion on Twitter, she stated "blue/purple with irridescent sparkles" .

Last but certainly not least
Photobucket

Boot Leg- Dark purple with a black undertone and lots of shimmer. (Shimmer appeared combination of gold and silver). Another great crease color.

*Boot Leg- Complicated Maroonish blackened purple

Hey at least I got the purple right on that one! he he he

I'm hoping tomorrow, as long as I get enough sleep and wake up with enough time. I plan to do a look with the Halloween shadows! Maybe bust out the new Halloween Wig as well..guess I should wrap this up then!

Until Next Time my Lovelies

XOXO

FOTD: High Voltage Cosmetics

As I stated in previous posting, I did a look using my favorite colors of my purchase from High Voltage Cosmetics. Of the 9 shadows that I purchased, my favorites so far have been Alter Ego, Bootleg, Teenage Riot, Radio Star and Scandalous.

Considering it was my off day, I figured it was a great time to let the creative juices flow..besides actually being a good house wifey and getting stuff done around the house.

So I came up with this fun, rockerish look...at least that is what I'm calling it (and yes, I did film it...I should be posting that video soon to the YouTube channel).

I finished the look, cleaned the house and then went to do errands on base. And as ironic as this sounds, when I stopped in the exchange (military form of a department store) my cashier asked me if I was getting ready to go out somewhere. I asked her why did she ask me that and she was all "Well you are all dressed up..I just figured you were going somewhere". Im guessing that maybe she thought either it as a little too much for the day...or it was her way of saying I was cute....the jury is still out on that one! ha ha

I didn't think it was a very dramatic look for the day. I won't lie...I was feeling myself. I tried to accessorize as best I could. I rocked my Alice in Wonderland Don't Be Late Necklace and some black studs. Besides some funky bracelets and my usual thumb and FU Ring (ha ha it's just a big ring I like to wear on my middle finger).
Photobucket

I'm still trying to get use to my bangs, I washed my hair and they are just a pain in the butt to do..so I just kinda threw up the rest of my hair and attempted to tame the bangs. Looking at the pic..they don't seem that bad! YAY!!!

Photobucket

So I used the Radio Star on the lower lash line. A bit of Scandalous on the inner tear duct to help brighten the eye.
Photobucket
On the lid I used Alter Ego ( I got it wet with MAC Fix +), Teenage Riot in the crease..with a bit of Bootleg in the inner crease (the "v") just to darken it a bit and Scandalous as a Highlight.

Basic winged black Liner, my go to so far has been my NYC Liquid Eyeliner. I didn't want to darken this look too much, so I used MAC's Fascinating Eye Kohl in the waterline. And since I didn't want to lose my lashes in this look, I added some falsies, Red Cherry #66 ( I think theseare the most natural lashes I have at the moment).

Photobucket

I paired it off with some pink cheeks, I used MAC's Coygirl blush and on my lips I used some lovely Essence products, a Lipgloss/Lippencil in Berry from the SunClub collection. (Cookie originally bought this color for herself, when we went shopping one day together. But after swatching it on her skin...she knew it wasn't for her and I ended up with it). On top of that I used my Essence XXL Lipgloss in SuperGirl.

Overall, I loved this look on me today. :)

High Voltage Cosmetics

So I made an order on September 24th to get a few samples sizes of a few Mineral shadows from High Voltage. I received them, yesterday, October 5th.

I have been following the lovely, Jasmine, owner and creator of this lovely line, on Twitter for a few months now. I have seen a few reviews of the line and a couple of tutorials.

I decided to take the plunge and make a small order. If you didn't know this about me, I have an addiction for mineral shadows. While others go gaga over lipgloss or pressed eyeshadows, I can sit on a website and just scroll though pics of minerals. If there are no swatches on the site, Google is my friend!

I purchased a total of 9 shimmer shadow samples. I wanna say it was a hard process of elimination, considering Jasmine has so many different and wonderful shadows on her site. I love the fact she breaks them down by color families (IE Earth tones, Pinks and Reds, Greens and Teals, Yellows and Oranges, Blues, and Black/White/Silver).

However, I honestly just went into each section, gazed at the picture for a few second and looked at the name. ha ha, such a hard choice. I did end up with more colors in the blues/purple/teal family...but I think it was just the way things worked out for this first purchase.

I am very excited to use these products. I did sit down and swatched them. And I know I will be able to have some fun with them. Again, I'm a sucker for pretty colors as well as shimmery shadows...again this is just personal preference. I do love a good matte, but I think mattes are great crease colors (or great to use for cutting a crease....which I am not very good at).

Anyways...Overall I spent a total of $10.00 for my lovely products, $9.00 for 9 sample shadows (which samples come in a small bag). These samples contain 1/8th of a teaspoon (which depending on how heavy handed you are with products can last anywhere from 15-20 usages). The additional $1.00 for was shipping and handling, which I think is a great price!

I hate it when some companies offer the $1.00 samples of their products but then want to charge you more than what you are spending on the actual product!!! Drives me crazy when that happens, but in this case High Voltage is very FAIR!

My shadows came in a mailing envelope, and I just loved the fact that Jasmine made sure to include a copy of my order, and included a small note on it as well!!!

Photobucket This is what my shadows came wrapped up in!!!
I thought this was so cute! Plus it kept all the product safe and together, there was no spillage from any of the baggies! Which is a definite thumbs up from me! Plus, how can you not think that's cute?

Here are the lovely colors that I ordered, a total of 9 of them...lol I was so excited I had to open my package at work just to look at them.
Photobucket
Looking at them, starting from the left and moving right they are the following:
Radio Star, Mean Streak, Alter Ego, November Rain, Scandalous, Roadie, After Hours, Bootleg, Teenage Riot

On my next blog posting I will put swatches of these colors...my wonderful Photobucket is having issues..I'm lucky it is letting me get up! Always gotta be something!!! he he

Not only did I get these awesome colors to play with...but Jasmine rocked because she included some awesome extras!!!!

Photobucket The shadows go in the following order from left to right:
Swap Thing, Witches Brew, Zombie Chic and Ghost Town

*Swap Thing and Zombie Chic are in her Halloween Collection #1 while Witches Brew and Ghost Town are in her Halloween Collection #2

I had been eyeing the twitpics she had been posting of her new Halloween Collection, and she was AWESOME to include 4 for me to play with!!! I think she knew I was lusting after them :)

She does have two different Halloween Collections, she included 2 shadows from each collection for me to play with! Good and bad because it does make me want to get both...lol and she doesn't do sample sizes (to sell) for these collections. So I guess I will just have to wait and see what I can manage when it comes to pay day later...he he he.

Overall, I'm a very excited girl! And I did do a look today using my favorites already...at least of the normal shadows...I think the Halloween shadows are great for a look all of its own!

Anyways, hope you enjoyed this rambling from yours truly...considering its been soooo long I figure I should start doing these more often.
